A new cultural project promoted by Fedegari Group, in collaboration with the University of Pavia and the Municipal Archaeological Museum of Casteggio and Oltrepò Pavese
Thanks to the Fedegari Group ‘s(https://fedegari.com/) long-standing commitment to culture and publishing – which has made the sharing of culture and knowledge, particularly related to the territory that hosts it, a true way of life – we are happy to be able to present to the public a preview of a new dissemination project, aimed at the knowledge of Romanisation in Oltrepò Pavese:
CLASTIDIUM 222 – THE ROMANS IN OLTREPO ‘ (https://www.clastidium222.it/).
A new volume and a dedicated website, edited, as far as the texts are concerned, by Prof. Stefano Maggi, lecturer in Classical Archaeology at the University of Pavia, and accompanied by precious photographic images by Giò Martorana (with the kind authorisation of the Lombardy Archaeological Superintendency), take us back in time, on a journey through both the sites of the Oltrepadano territory and the archaeological finds on display at the new MAC, concerned with the period of Romanisation.
The contents of the prestigious volume and website emphasise how, to quote part of the text edited by Prof. Maggi, the arrival of the Romans in Oltrepò and their subsequent active presence brought a great vision of development in the field of agriculture and trade, which embraced European territories. Cisalpina and Oltrepò became a junction area between the Mediterranean and continental Europe . Thus, the Roman presence in Oltrepò immediately meant the opening of contacts with the French coast and the Iberian peninsula, then with the inland regions of France, Switzerland and Germany, to the north-west; Austria and the Dalmatian area to the east. These contacts were certainly positive for the productive and economic growth of our lands.
On Sunday, 2 March 2025, at 5 p.m., at the Auditorium of Palazzo Certosa Cantù, this important cultural and informative project will be publicly presented at the Civico Museo Archeologico di Casteggio e dell’Oltrepò Pavese: find all the info in the EVENTS section of this site!
